Because of her role in horror films and television, she was deemed a horror queen by media. She gained fame for playing Marnie Michaels on the HBO comedy drama series Girls that aired from 2012 to 2017. This role earned her nominations for Critics' Choice Awards. Her breakout came from her role as Rose Armitage in the horror film Get Out (2017), which won her nominations at The MTV Movie Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards among other accolades.
